I'm sorry, but I thought that this was just dumb. There's no explanation for how the main character gets this technology. Does the figure in each universe have it? If so, then why does the first victim seem oblivious and just get killed like a dumb animal (and what kind of a maniac kills his alternate with a hedge trimmer)? The subsequent 'selves' seem aware of the fact that there are multiples. How did that happen? Why are some aware and others not? Why does the main character feel the need to kill the self who has his girlfriend in order to take his place? Is there nothing less outrageous that he could do (ie, take the girl with him to another universe, or strand his counterpart in his)? Why the hell would anyone shoot blindly at an unseen person behind a closed door? The 2004 movie 'Primer' dealt with some similar themes and it was brilliant. This is a just a nonsensical mess.
