A very simple story about the sacrifice of a selfless Union soldier during the civil war. It was nicely executed with good production values and I have no criticism of the artistry involved. The only reservation I have about this film is that if someone were to see it without some larger historical context, they might believe that the sentiments of the Union soldier was representative of Union soldiers generally, and that is clearly untrue. There certainly were abolitionists who were fighting because they felt that freeing the slaves was a moral imperative, but they were the exception rather than the rule. There are many films (both documentary and feature) that give a more realistic portrayal of this and which would be more appropriate if looking for a film with historical value rather than one which is more of an uplifting morality tale.

Brandon!
Just watched your movie. Its very touching. The background music works for a short movie but you seem to have relied heavily on it. It would have been better if it started when the main character finds his lost key, then faded when he meets 'the slaves'. And if you then let it continue when the shackles drop til the end.
I'm so amped to watch your next movie, no pressure:-)
