Ah and by the way to all those (well-meaning, I'm sure) people who think that the US is out to save the world, please do yourselves a favour and look back a couple of decades to see who it was that trained and armed Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban when they were fighting against the USSR. And the same goes to Iraq when it was at war with USSR-backed Iran. The US is fighting against the monsters it helped create. Or rather the US government is using its former pawns as scarecrows to fuel an ongoing "war against terror". Guantanamo is a part of that same policy of "might makes right". The Taliban and the Hussein regime were definitely dangerous and unjust, but the US seemed to remember that when it could no longer use them as allies. The world is full of tyrants and dictators but when there is no oil or uranium involved then the Western world seems very reluctant to help. Any idea why?
Hats off to you Tourniquette, you make good sense. You are of course right about the 2 World Wars. If it wasn't for the US, the Axis powers would have probably dominated the rest of the world. However, things started going downhill right after Roosevelt died and Truman dropped the 2 A-bombs on Japan. Ever since then the world became a chessboard for 50 years for the USA and the USSR. Now the US is mostly playing solo and they need terrorists, real or imagined, to act as the enemy. That way they can keep selling weapons and exploiting resources almost unchecked. I do know that not all Americans are ignorant of all this and it's good to hear from one of them.
