In order for governance to change like this, it has to be shown as better than the alternative, or at least more attractive. The reasons people aren't involved in politics are: not enough time, it's boring, and it's full of assholes.
This idea of direct democracy seems to just be more of the worst. More time needed, more bureaucratic, and more assholes getting in a word. What exactly are the benefits, that I can do it through a computer? Wrong answer.
People get into politics because they want to vent emotionally in person at other people, or want to be associated with righteousness, or want to leverage their private resources through public policy. The question we should be asking is how do we harness these natural forces into good policy.
